Discovering City walls, Bratislava. From the Old Town to Bratislava Castle, next to the Cathedral you'll see a huge wall. According to online information, it was part of a fortification construction that started at the end of 14thcentury. The most part of it was demolished, so it was decided to integrate it to the city suburbs. We technically just passed through the bridge linking the castle and the old town. We only took some pictures around the enormous walls, and didn't quite realize what it was until we did our research online. So maybe it would be worth to spend a little more time around and get to know more about the history. Serge: 4 Eli: 4 Do we recommend ? It's an interesting place to visit.

Really historic and significant walls along the highway but the access gate to the walkway along the walls was locked on Sunday afternoon. Some exhibits were visible through the gate but we could not see any info on opening times.
Skoda, ze ich ostalo tak malo. Maria Tereria ich dala zburat.

Budovanie týchto hradieb sa datuje do obdobia 13az14 storočia. Hovorí sa im tiež staroveké hradby. Ich súčasťou boli tiež brány, ktorými sa dalo vstúpiť do opevneného vnútorného mesta. Najblizsia k Domu sv. Martina bola Vydrická brána. Súčasťou opevnenia bola tiež Laurinská brána,(pozostatky po nej možo vidieť pred divadlom Pavla Országha Hviezdoslava). Dodnes zachovaná je Michalská brána, ktorá bola počas stáročí niekoľko krát nadstavovaná. Jej súčasťou bol padací most. Najmladšou bránou bola brána Rybárska, postavená v 14 storočí. Na príkaz Márie Terézie časť hradieb aj veže Vydrická, Laurinská a Rybárska boli zbúrané. Zachovala sa len Michalská a niektoré múry hradieb bolí prerobené na obydlia.
