A must see if you are in the area. The castle belongs to the most beautiful ones in Slovakia and the view from the main tower is something to experience for sure. The castle is accessible with a pleasant walk from the city center and the opening hours are very tourist friendly (longer than usual 17:00). The staff working at the office and on the castle grounds is very kind and helpful.

The castle can be reached directly from the city center from Matúšova Street(I recommend visiting coffee sheep on this way), or via the reconstructed steep castle steps that lead from the city gate to the Gothic church on the castle hill. I tryed them both ways. The castle houses the expositions of the Trenčín Museum founded in 1877), relating to the history of the Trenčín region and the castle itself. The Barbora Palace houses an exhibition of historical furniture, valuable weapons, paintings and prehistoric exhibits in Ludvík's Palace and a permanent castle gallery in the castle's farm building. In addition, there are archaeological collections and finds discovered during archaeological excavations at the castle. The expositions at the castle are open to the public during visiting hours. From Matúš's tower there is a view of the surrounding landscape, urban architecture and massive Gothic-Renaissance fortifications reaching far into the natural forest of Brezina. I have so good luck, for a castle guide , this small woman was amazing, she answered everithing

Visited Trencin and this castle on a day trip from Bratislava. The castle does look very pretty from far off as it sits on a hill overlooking Trencin and there's a big climb up to the entrance of the castle. The castles does offer a guided tour, which unfortunately is in Slovak only. The former barracks of the castle has exhibitions, but most of it is in Slovak, so difficult for me to follow. The rest of the castle is in reasonable condition and there's great views, especially from Mathias Tower. Along the climb up to the latter are lots of mini exhibitions of Trenchin history. I enjoyed the visit, but the lack of English was a problem.

The castle has spectacular view! We got a good tour guy who was telling us everything about this castle. The castle itself is big. The tour took us about 1:30-2:00. You can decide if you want a long tour like we had or you can have short tour. The long tour will show you almost everything both inside and outside the castle. If you will choose the short tour, majority of time you will be outside.

I haven't been on this castle since my childhood. I was really impressed by the reconstructions they did during the years. Castle is in a great shape and offers interesting views. In comparison with some other castles, there is a lack of exhibits inside, but still it's worth to visit. It's really beautiful castle. Recommended!

Amazing views at sunset in mid October. A lot of steps to climb in the tower and quite narrow so be prepared and give yourself plenty time if you are not fit. Good facilities and information about the place. Cheap tour guides available if you prefer. I would definitely come back if I got the chance!
