TrashOut aims to monitor illegal dumps all around the world to determine level of problems in society. Illegal dumping can be viewed in two ways. On the most basic level, illegal dumping confronts us with garbage in public spaces, which is unpleasant and unhealthy. On a deeper level, illegal dumping can be seen as a thumb in the eye to the idea that we, as citizens, have a responsibility to each other and to the planet we jointly occupy. It’s sometimes hard to figure out which is worse — the smell and sight of an illegal dump or the insulting arrogance that would lead some people to feel they have a right to violate spaces shared by all. Often, this arrogance is directly linked to financial self-interest and to corruption. It is cheaper to illegally dump than it is to play by the local rules for legal waste disposal. In sum, illegal dumping can be seen as a kind of metaphor for the lack of social responsibility that stands in the way of addressing a range of problems. Problem we are solving: Cheating in schools, corruption, violating rules in society is like cancer in human's body. We determine them statisticaly through questionaries and make graphs out of that. Because of these problems, people creates litter the world and don’t care about environment. There is over 300 million tons of illegal waste on our planet (source: Let's do it! World statistics). It's poluting not just land, but also underwater resources and ocean water. In Europion Union we estimate over 500 million EUR is spent yearly on cleaning illegal dumps. Current progress: We attracted global organisations, news and companies such as Let's do it!, Greenpeace, The Next Web, TechSoup Global, Microsoft or European parliament. Right know we registered over 70 000 downloads, 24 000 reported illegal dumps in over 70 countries.
