Very nice ice cave located only short hike distance from the main road. It's ideal to visit during hot summer days, but unfortunately during my visit in August 2020 was almost all ice melted due to very warm winters.

Demänovka It is located in Nízké Tatry. Of the total length of 1900 m, 680 m are accessible to the public, I physically walked 1458 m in the cave complex. The entrance hole lies at an altitude of 740 m above sea level. The cave consists of spacious corridors and domes, spread over three cave levels. The cave is entered through a narrow fissure corridor to the lowest floor 40 m below, where until recently the floor was covered with ice and more robust stalagmites and stalagmites in the size of the Great Dome and Kmet's Dome, which the guide pointed out and could not forgive the reminder of global warming. . In the spring, ice stalactites also hang from the ceiling. The other areas do not have more permanent ice formations and are characterized by stalactite formations, painted gray to black on the surface from the soot of tar pitch. The glaciation of the cave was made possible by the vertical shape of the entrance parts, which prevents the penetration of warm air in summer. The stability of ice formations in summer depends on the degree of cooling of the cave walls and on the accumulation of ice in winter. The relative humidity in the cave ranges from 96 to 98%. My veil was completely sweaty after the east. Many Thanks to the two great guides who had great patience with me.

We chose this cave for visit because of the ice that is everywhere on the pictures. I've never seen it before and even after visit it remained the same. We were told that the ice is going down because of global warming and for recovery it would need three proper winter seasons. So there was just a piece of ice. Except this fact the visit was quite nice. The cave is is possible to reach from Liptovský Mikuláš and from the bus station it is about 10 minutes of fast walk up to hill.

Cave itself is nice as well as the walk to it. However organization and the staff was really poor. We had obviously bored guide who got upset because of gathered visitors so he was forced to make additional tour. Price for such a short tour was pretty high and ticket for a photo permission was too high. 10 euros for making pictures in bad lighting conditions is over the top. Previous tour was echoing so we could barely hear our bored tour guide- such a pity... Behind our group walked a \hanger-on\ guy who was always behind your back making sure you don't take bloody photo without previously purchased permission. Absence of tours in English is shame although, for the commentary we got, would be a small brochure more than enough...

Nice cave, but not too much ice in August. Hike up the hill was beautiful. Tour was only in Slovak.

I loved every second of it.The passages are very well laid out and even tho I don't understand Slovak the experience was unforgettable.

Not much ice inside however the cave itself is beautiful. Parking costs almost as much as entrance to the cave. It requires a bit of climbing up the hill.

It is a great place but there is almost no ice in summer.
